Lac La Biche Disability Services is a non-profit charitable organization. In partnership with family and community, we offer a variety of support to individuals with disabilities in the Lac La Biche and surrounding areas.
Lac La Biche Disability Services is currently accepting applications for Disability Service Workers.
As an Outreach-Disability Support Worker, you are responsible to support and facilitate the development of skills and competencies that will assist persons with disabilities to pursue and fulfill their goals and aspirations; by promoting community inclusion and to develop and maintain daily living opportunities and experiences to live independently within their own home and for providing a high quality of service and life for each individual associated with or living in the home.
It is expected the Disability Support Worker provide hands-on care and support to the individuals in service and will uphold an environment of accountability, excellence and collaboration.
Duties Include:
- Help individual’s complete daily tasks and meet their goals, while encouraging independence and positive choices. You may assist with personal care and medication administration.
- Encourage and assist individuals to pursue overall healthy living (i.e. following the Canada Food Guide), fitness, recreational activities and positive choices.
- Pay attention to, and monitor the medical well-being of each individual.
- Develop relationships with and amongst staff across LLBDS with an aim to develop a culture of collaboration, strong morale and commitment to the LLBDS’ growth plan.
- Develop professional relationships and maintain a working dialogue with individuals and their families/guardians, as well as the community and co-workers.
- Help to ensure quality service levels that will enable the Company’s ability to successfully achieve required certifications/accreditations.
- Assist as directed with all home specific administrative functions such as: preparation of monthly and quarterly reports; attend case conferences and other meetings; maintain in-home individual files and log books, medication records(if necessary), and communication books.
- Other duties that may arise as assigned by the Team Leader.
Preferred Qualifications: A positive attitude and belief that persons with disabilities have the right and responsibility to define and pursue their life choices, and pursue active participation and involvement in the community. A willingness to learn of the opportunities and options available to persons with disabilities; plus, demonstrated cultural and ethnic sensitivity. Ability to provide skilled direct frontline support to individuals. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-orientated work environment. Either trained in or willing to be trained in Foundations in Community Disability Studies, First -Aide / CPR, Medication Administration, Abuse Prevention and Response Protocol, Positive Behaviour supports, FOIP, and Mandt. A High School Diploma, valid driver’s license, clean drivers abstract, and use of a clean vehicle in good working order is required.
